GM Finalists in Games Festival

The Independent Games Festival (IGF), founded in 1998 by the CMP Game Group is a well renowned competition between the best of independent game developers.

The main competition earns the winner a grand prize amounting to $20,000. There are also several other prizes to be won which range from $500 to $2500 in value such as the Best Web Browser Game and the Best Student Game award.

What is of great interest this year is that two Game Maker games have made the top finalists list, Battleships Forever and Clean Asia.

Battleships forever has been nominated for the Design Innovation Award and was developed by Wyrdysm Games. The author describes the game as “a tactical Real Time Strategy game that puts you in command of a small fleet of warships in space.” More information about the game can  be found here:

Clean Asia, developed by Cactus Games is described as a “stylish vertical shooter with innovative gameplay elements and a unique presentation” and is nominated for two categories,  Excellence In Visual Arts and Excellence In Audio. More info here:

The IGF summit will be held February 18-20, and the winners will be announced on the 20th. So let’s give Cactus and Wyrdysm a hand and wish them luck.

  1. Wow, pretty great 🙂

Although I didn’t like BF that much. I didn’t really have the feeling I was completely in control of the ships, or that I could learn it quickly.

Clean Asia was fun, but hard 😮
Awesome game though, hope it wins.

  2. Your article appears to imply this is the first time this has happened yet Cute Knight (Hanako Games) was nominated in 2006.

  3. Don’t forget to vote for us at !

  4. My gaming forum offers tons of discussion about gaming and anything of the sort. 🙂

  5. Well congrats! Now I’m pumped up!
