YoYo Games Goes Yahoo!

The new YoYo games website will be based off of the Yahoo! User Interface Library. This is essentially a set of user interface controls built with DOM scripting, DHTML and AJAX from the well known Yahoo! company.

From what is known so far, the site will most likely incorporate some neat features of the YUI that could include anything from draggable page elements and the use of Carousel to display content in a scrolling frame (like so).

We can expect some nice visual/cinematic effects on various elements on the webpage, as the YUI development kit includes such utilities to animate the position, size, opacity and other characteristics of page elements.

  1. Wait, so is YoYo affiliated with Yahoo?

  2. Got to be cool!

  3. As long as it’s useful they can put in whatever effects they want. I just want to have an oiled publishing system 🙂

  4. @Tsa: No. Yoyo just uses some interface library from Yahoo. This doesn’t mean they are affiliated with Yahoo. Or are you affiliated with Microsoft because you use Windows?

  5. Interesting, hope they won’t bulk up their servers. I would prefer everything smooth and fast rather then blocky, but i’m sure they’ve already thought of that.

  6. A simple question: how do you know this?

  7. Except for the fact they have spies around every corner of your room watching you? lol

  8. Perhaps the mods/admins have seen it?

  9. Where’d you hear this? I’ve checked the glog, my PM inbox, the announcements, everything. Ah well, I’ll find out for sure when I get the memo.

  10. This reminds me of the battle Google, Yahoo, and AOL are having for control over the web.

    +1 point for Yahoo

  11. That’s great news! I work with the YUI libraries on a daily basis, so if you ever have any questions about them send em my way 🙂

  12. The only effects that should ever be used are fade in and fade out. An site should NEVER be 100% ajax-powered.

  13. Ugh, the last thing we need is an AJAX infested website. Even Great Games Experiment abuses AJAX to some extent.

  14. GGE’s AJAX implementation is quite nice, not “overabused”.

  15. I know, most of it is awesome. But stuff like fading out the main area for stuff is a bit too much, if you ask me.

  16. What’s wrong with AJAX? I think fading in/out just slows things down… That’s why I hate 100% flash websites.
