GM7 Beta 2 Released

In accordance with the newly released Extension Package Builder, Mark Overmars has just released the second beta of Game Maker 7. This beta includes many changes and improvements as a result of beta testing, and it also includes the new extension mechanism so users can start testing their extension packages with the final version of GM7. Although not indicated, I do not think the extension mechanism will undergo any significant changes between now and the final release, so it is probably safe to start creating packages.

A couple of the obvious changes I noticed, the Website advertisement in the main Game Maker window (which caused many complaints) can now be turned off in preferences.

The bug I reported has been fixed, extension functions are now displayed correctly when “Show Extension Functions” is selected from the scripts menu.

I also noticed the extension selection window now contains “Help” and “Find More [Extensions]” buttons for your convenience.

There is now an option to “Treat the close button as the <ESC> key” under the “Let <ESC> end the game”

And lots of other changes I didn’t have time to list

Get the BETA 2 here! [Must have a legal registration of GM 6.x]

  1. The option to “Treat the close button as the key” under the “Let end the game” was implemented in Beta 1.

  2. It’s good to see that the bug with the precision of reals is fixed after such a long long time.

  3. “Although not indicated, I do not think the extension mechanism will undergo any significant changes between now and the final release, so it is probably safe to start creating packages.”

And that’s based on what? Mark is releasing the extensio builder for testing purposes only, and he is trying to prevent serious extension development. I would rather recommend people NOT to start creating extensions.
