Mark to keep promise?

There is very little information on this subject other than an Administrator of the Game Maker Community Forums has (in a private conversation) expressed that Mark Overmars claims to be able to do the 'switch' without the need of users having to re-register their accounts. What isn't clear is whether the 'switch' refers to the server switch or the forum switch, although the admin hinted at the latter. As you may know Mark posted a topic yesterday to clarify some miss-communication, what he did say is this move should be transparent, I view that as a given as he also indicated it should just be a mirrored forum. When talking to the admin, I was under the impression the not having to re-register was referring to both moves.

So perhaps we won't lose everything? But again as we all know the mods on the GMC are hush hush, area-51 type security so barely anything is known other than that. Stay tuned for updates and edits in case I get more info. Also post your comments.

  1. Very hush hush yes. How can I expect you to notice a topic called the Server Move in the community forum by Mark Overmars where he said:
“After this move we will start working on a new forum because there are a number of problems with the current one. This will probably take quite a while (maybe even months). Again we will do our best to keep registrations intact, to keep bans in place, etc. (So don’t think misbehavior will be forgotten.) Probably we will remove all post then. ”

If Mark publically announces that they will try to do this then how is this hush hush?

  2. Have you read Mark’s post yet? This should clarify everything…

“This week we plan to change server. This will change nothing to the forum. All users remain registered, all bans and warnings will stay in place, all topics and posts will remain available, etc. The move should be completely transparent to all of you. The forum will be down for a few days, then be up again and function as before, only (hopefully) without server busy messages.

After this move we will start working on a new forum because there are a number of problems with the current one. This will probably take quite a while (maybe even months). Again we will do our best to keep registrations intact, to keep bans in place, etc. (So don’t think misbehavior will be forgotten.) Probably we will remove all post then. But most likely we will also keep the old forum around in read-only mode such that people can still inspect old posts.”

  3. Yes, I had read that post, and considering the forum is just going to be pretty much mirrored over to the new server, I don't see why there would be a problem with the accounts. My impression was he was hinting that Mark wold try and avoid the re-registration problem all together. But yes ho could very well indeed be referring to that post.

  4. Meh, I’m glad I don’t get those annoying errors anymore, but there isn’t much of a difference besides this.
